This event exemplifies our unwavering dedication to the Montgomery County Juvenile Court Foundation and its efforts to empower and enrich the lives of the youth and families within our community. The golf tournament took place on Monday, July 24, 2023, at The Golf Club at Yankee Trace in Centerville, Ohio.
The event’s proceeds directly benefitted the Montgomery County Juvenile Court Foundation, which plays a vital role in supplementing activities and enriching established programs for the youth and families served by our Court. These encompass recreational, educational, and enrichment services that would be challenging to provide under the regular court budget.
The Montgomery County Juvenile Court Foundation was established in the fall of 1998 as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Its primary purpose is to solicit contributions to fund Juvenile Court programs, enhancing activities and events that bring enrichment to the lives of the children and families served by the Court. The Foundation’s two fundraising efforts include the Court’s Fall Employee Fundraising Campaign and the annual Judge Arthur O. Fisher Golf Outing.
Arthur O’Neil Fisher (1919 – 2002) displayed exceptional bravery and resilience during World War II, and in 1945, Fisher and 100 black airmen took a courageous stand, refusing to sign a statement promising to discontinue sit-ins at white officers’ clubs.
Despite facing the threat of court-martial and the death penalty, their resolute stance ultimately contributed to President Harry S. Truman’s signing of an executive order abolishing segregation in the armed services on July 26, 1948. Fisher continued to break barriers, becoming the first black person to work in the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s office. He further shattered stereotypes by becoming the first black judge of the Dayton Municipal Court and, later, the first black judge of the county’s Juvenile Court. Throughout his career, Fisher’s dedication to youth advocacy was evident, as he spearheaded numerous rehabilitative programs, leaving a lasting legacy in the community
